Bristol Metropolitan students explore nature at Grow Wilder
A group of enthusiastic students from Bristol Metropolitan Academy recently embarked on an exciting educational trip to Grow Wilder, a local nature reserve and allotment area.
The journey to Grow Wilder – where students were accompanied by science teacher Gwin Lloyd – was just as engaging as the destination itself. On their walk-through Eastville Park, students enjoyed a game of poohsticks – a classic game made famous by Winnie-the-Pooh, in which players drop sticks into a stream from one side of a bridge and watch to see whose stick emerges first on the other side.
Once at Grow Wilder, the students immersed themselves in a variety of outdoor activities. One of the highlights of the trip was baking apples over an open fire and enjoying their delicious, warm treat.
During their exploration of the reserve, students encountered an array of fascinating wildlife. They observed birds, insects, frogspawn, and even newly hatched tadpoles.
The most exciting sighting of the day was a kingfisher, a rare and vibrant bird that left students in awe.
Gwin Lloyd said: “The visit to Grow Wilder provided students with a valuable opportunity to connect with nature, learn about local wildlife, and enjoy hands-on experiences in an outdoor environment.
“The trip was a memorable and educational adventure for all involved.”
